There was a great shortage of wood. So a farmer came up with the idea of carving such a protective mask out of a pumpkin. When he then placed a candle inside, it looked really alive.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When the leaders of the Eye of Wisdom heard about this, they declared it a day of celebration to distract people from the harsh winter. Everyone made pumpkin masks like this and came together to chat over delicious pumpkin dishes. Later, children put on these masks and dressed up as monsters. So they went to their neighbors and asked for sweets.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>At first it was just a game played by a few children, but over time it developed into a custom. Today, this day is known as the &#8220;Pumpkin Festival&#8221; in the calendar. The children dress up as monsters and ask for sweets or scare people.
